Columbus Ohio VA Disability Ratings Attorneys
Once the VA determines that you have a service-connected disability, it will rate the severity of your disability. Different ratings qualify you for different types of benefits, so it is important that your rating is accurate. Many times, however, the VA will give even the most serious of injuries the lowest rating possible.
Cleveland Medical Evaluation Lawyers
At Manring & Farrell, we have helped many veterans obtain a rating that fully reflects their situation. Our attorneys help clients fill out initial benefits applications so that they have a strong start to the process. If the initial rating is not in line with the nature and extent of the disability, we draw on our more than 20 years of representing the disabled or injured to fight for our clients and appeal the rating decision. If you need help obtaining veterans benefits, or if you have received a rating that you disagree with, contact us to schedule a free initial consultation.
What Is The “Disability Rating Scale”?
Disabilities are rated based on injury severity using a percentage scale from 0 to 100 percent. You do not have to be “totally” disabled in order to receive benefits, but you must have at least a 10 percent rating to receive monthly payments, and at least a 30 percent rating to qualify for benefits for your dependent spouse, children or parents.
If you have more than one service-connected disability, the VA will rate each disability separately and combine them to give you an overall disability rating. Higher percentage ratings mean higher monthly payments. The amount of compensation you will receive for a veterans claim depends on many things, including the severity of your injury and whether or not you have children.
Levels Of Disability Payment
Although payment amounts are updated every year, in recent years a veteran alone, with no dependents, could receive between $127 and $2,769 in disability benefits each month. Additional benefits may be available if you have a spouse or children.
